(By “Abayclos.”)

The popular Easter trotting carnival of the Ha weir a. club opens on Saturday and lyilf c-oncludo on Monday. Such ■excellent progress has the local organisation made oi' -recent- years that the fixture a*auk:s as one <ot "the most important in the North Island. The attractive programme has drawn a splendid typ© of competitor, while- the fine work of Handieapper Goosman lias resulted in large fields being carded.

AUROA HANDICAP (Harness). Of 20Q sovs-; limit 3.40; one mile and a-hali'

There is a big lot on the front, including Oa-pilano, Lee Nelson, Teri Kingi and Lady Snips, who all showed promise at Wanganui. Then there is Lady Yvonne and Drift Wave, recent place-getters, and winners in Tiny JRlo.se, E-ita Thorpe (both in saddle) and Baron Derby . are handily placed. Matchmaker comes with high qualifications. If there' is no penalty for Baron Derby after his Wanganui win he will be favourite over Lee Nelson and Capilano. MATAPU HANDICAP (Harness). Of 200 sovs.; limit 3.45; one mile and a-lialf. (For unhoppled trotters only.)

Some good square-gaiters are engaged here, and the race is full of possibilities. Caballero is the most solid of the limit lot, but Brian Bingen is close to the three-year-okl and may prove a nuisance. The mile and' a-half will suit Bessie Bingen admirably, while Laurier and Nelson Parrish also prefer a short journey. Favourites will probably he Bessie Bingen, Brian Bingen and Caballero.

STRATFORD HANDICAP (Harness). 01 200 sovs.; limit 3.36; one mile and a-half.

IRangibau. should, do better off tile front, while Harold Logan’s Wanganui form was good. Modern Light won a double at Hastings in approved fashion, while if Rita Thorpe can go as well in harness as saddle she will keen all hands busy. Nathaniel is a possibility, while Zealous and Gumdigger are. well placed. If no penalty for her Wanganui win has been ‘allotted Zealous she will be the elect over Harold Logan and Modern Light.

HAWERA TROTTING CUP (Harness) Of 600 sovs.; limit <1.40; two miles.

A. classy lot will contest the chief event, and of the limit lot Little Guy on recent form will appeal strongly. He will be bracketed with Hostess, making a good combination. Logan’s Pride will also show up well, while Gang Awn is a possibility. Ail Red will have to improve a lot on Wanganui form to get in the picture. Royal Silk and Tnnmtakuru are fine pacers worth keeping in mind. ICnawah lias yet to prove she cun stay, but Explosion and Warplane are sure to add interest to a. fine contest. Best hacked may be the Little Guy-Hostess bracket-.' Royal Silk and Tumatakuru.

MANAIA HANDICAP (Harness). Of 250 sovs.; limit ASO; two miles (For unhopplcd trotters only.)

A handy field of good tnutters will he seen out for this event. Off the front is the promising West Coaster, Olive Nelson, who is a neat little mover. Ando Spray is a solid plodder, while Home Voyage may he equal to the task. Bright Right and Taniahine may find the last hit of the journey trying, but Paradigm will be going solidly at the finish, while Anseline always goes well on the Hawera track. Rest* hacked will probable he Olive Nelson, Auclo Spray and l Paradigm.

NOEMANET HANDICAP (Harness). Of 200 sovs.; limit 2.20; one mile.

Some merrv milors will take part in this dash. Tiny Rose, off the front, has only to repeat Wanganui form to be dangerous, wnile the journey will suit Nathaniel. Hal more is a speedy customer, while, if right, Ngahuia will

lend the opposition n merry dance. A great beginner is Cora- Tac-ks, who also has a later engagement. Brook Pointer won so well at Hamilton that lie is sure to be troublesome, while Trustworthy and Queen Elizabeth are a. smart pair. Backers may show a,, preference- fori Brook Pointer, Halmore and Cora' Tacks.

PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP (Harness) Of 220 sovs.; limit 4.50; two miles.

Two miters of improving calibre will have their opportunity in, this heat. Richmond 1 Lass looks the best of the front liners, white on Wanganui form Kevinbrae- should account for her. A warm lot appear on the 38yds mark. Great Author was in the limelight at Wanganui. Gumdigger appears to be coming back to form, hut has an earlier engagement, while Gold Treasure and St. George have recent winning form •over thirteen furlongs. There will be good support for Gumdigger, Great Author and Gold Treasure. KLTIIAM HANDICAP (Harness). Of 220 sovs.; limit 2.54; one mile and a-quarter.

Again the smart sprinters will parade, and as; most of the competitors have an earlier engagement, the public will have a good line on their form. The Rithoie-Queen Elizabeth bracket will be handy, while Halmore, Gang Awa, Peter Lloyd, Cora Tacks. Native Hero, Logan's Pride, Royal Silk, and Tumatakuru will all he in the picture if they face the mark. Chief fancies may be the Queen Rii za bet b-Ri chore bracket. Royal Silk and Tumatakuru.
