The Oliief Railway Commissioner (Mr Cleary) said that, although, the Australian Railway Union had rejected the 44-hour work for 44-hour pay proposal, three skilled unions—the locomotive enginemen, electricians anti permanent way signallers—had aci epted the compromise. Mr Cleary emphasised that the way to negotiations was not closed. He was doing everything to avoid further dismissals.
