RACING STABLES DESTROYED

FIRE AIAKES CLEAN SAVEEP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AVELLINGTON, Feb. 14. Mr H. Brown’s stables and storerooms at Bristol Street, Trentham, were totally destroyed by fire. The stables fortunately were empty at the time, as Brown was away at the AVanganui meeting with his two horses, but the storerooms contained tools and gear used by Brown in his business as a builder. One of his carpenters lost a motor cycle valued at £75 and a full kit of tools.

An effort was made to fight the fire before it gained full control, and water was brought from a main on the high road, but the fire was up a side street 150 yards from the main, and the only hose available was old and full of holes, with the consequence that not a great deal of water actually reached the fire by this means. The buildings were totally destroyed with their contents.
