LONDON, Feb. 14. “France’s victory on the Rugby field is most important for the success of the naval conference ; so please give Samertan the necessary leave of absence.” The French Premier (M. Tardieu) thus telegraphed the War Minister (M. Maginot), with the result that when the French team meets England at Twickenham on February 15 it will 'be a full strength. Samertan, the French wing threequarter, is a private in an infantry regiment stationed in the south of France, whose colonel refused to grant leave.

M. Tardieu, hearing of the case, 1 immediately despatched the foregoing.
