WHEAT PRODUCTION
SUBSTANTIAL DROP EXPECTED. (By Telegraph—Special to “The Star.”) AA-ELLINGTON, Feb. 14. Estimates of the probable average yields of the Dominion’s cereal crops have been prepared by the Government Statistician, based on the reports of stock inspectors of the Department of Agriculture. The main conclusion is that the estimated wheat crop this harvest will show a decline of 1,132,864 bushels. Following are details in bushels per acre:
Average estimated for the Dominion, season 1929-30, 30.46, 39.71, 33.89. Average (actual) for the Dominion, season 1928-29, 34.60, 41.93, 40.06. - In accordance with the above estimates the total yield of wheat for the Dominion should be approximately 7,100,(XX) bushels, as against the actual I yield of 8,832,884 bushels for the season 11928-29. The percentage of oats threshed for the five seasons' ending with 1928-29 was 28.87 of the total area under that crop. Assuming a similar proportion is threshed this year the total yield of grain should be approximately 3,150,000 bushels, as against an actual yield of 3,065,113 bushels for the season 192829. The percentage of barley threshed for the five seasons ending with 1928-29 was 98.26 of the total area under that crop, and assuming that a similar proportion is threshed this year the total yield of the grain should be approximately 680,000 bushels, as against the actual yield of 781,102 bushels for the season 1928-29.
