Mr J. Cocker, of Rawliitiroa, is on a short visit to Wellington. Rev. A. Mitchell and Mrs. Mitchell, of honaonby, Auckland, are at pres- ! ent. visiting Hawera and are the guests lof Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Robb. Mr W. P. Kirkwood, of Sydney, who has been on an extended visit to Stratford, left yesterday for Australia. Mr A. Blackman, manager of the Eltham gas works, is attending a conference of gas work managers at Napier. Commissioner R. Wilson, 0.8. E., of Salvation Army Headquarters, is expected in Wellington about February 24. General Higgins, who was to accompany him, has been delayed in England.

General Higgins, who was to accompany him, has been delayed in England. The funeral took place in Eltham yesterday afternoon of the late Mrs J. B. Emmett, the cortege leaving ,Bt. Joseph’s church, where a short service was held. Rev. Father Brennan officiated at the church and graveside. The cortege was representative o'f a wide area of South Taranaki residents. Included; among numerous floral tributes was a wreath from the staff of the “Ilahvcra Star,” of which the deceased’s husband is a member. The pall-bearers were: Messrs G. Powell (Kaponga), C. Emmett (Wanganui), H. Stefford (Hawera). and S. Scanlon (Eltham).
