O , MUNICIPAL BAND. At a special meeting of the Patea Municipal Band this week, Mr A. 11. Moore, deputy-conductor, presided overa large attendance of members. The matter under discussion was whether the band would enter for the brass and reed bands’ contest at Eltham on March 13. The chairman stated that unless the members attended practices better and put their hacks into the work for the one month it would bo useless considering the matter. The cjuestion of some of the members getting the day off on March 13 was another (matter. t ) It was finally decided to enter the contest and to hold four or five practices a week. The secretary stated that, as the hand had a credit balance of £9O, it was in a good financial position. CRICKET. Thq/ end of play last Saturday saw Patea with a total of 197, only 20 runs behind Waverley in the first innings.* Resuming hatting, Waverley had lost two wickets for 35 at call of time. The conclusion of the match next Saturday will be watched with very keen interest. T>T?T>«n\r 4 T.
> PEKBUiN AL. , Misis Clarice Thomson has received notification of her acceptance as a trainee at the Auckland Training College. Miss V. Hunger has left Patea to 1 join the staff of the Ohura District High School. ; BOWLING. ! Some very good games for the Scown Cup were witnessed on Saturday, the green being keen and playing well. A feature of the games was the improved play of the young members. The following were the results of Saturday’s play: P. Bourke 21 v. W. Paterson 14, E. ‘T. Mercer 20 v. Father Mooi’e 17, C. Richards 21 v. R. Whittington 17, Green 23 a v. W. Lamb 17, Green 17 v. Father Moore 12, R. ‘Whittington 25 v. E. T. Mercer 16. C. Richards 30 v. Father Moore 12, F. Parsons 24 v. W. Paterson 14, P. Bourke 21 v. E. T. Mercer 17. - Advice was received on Saturday from, the Taranaki Bowling Centre that the club’s champion must be found by February 17. It Is hoped that as many matches in the singles competition will be played as soon as possible. RTFLE SHOOTING. The first ■competition for the Roots trophy was fired on the local range on Saturday. The conditions were 1 ideal and some fine scores were recorded. Rifleman D. Roots was in
good form, and topped the score with a brilliant 97, 49 at 200yds and 48 at 300yds. President Palmer was next; with a. splendid 96, 48 at each range. The scores were as follow:. D.
