STREETS RESEMBLE RIVERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) V AUCKLAND, Jan. 21. J It is estimated that half an inch of rain fell in the city in half an hour early' this morning, the rainfall for Jafiiiary to 9 a.rn. being 5.79 inches. Low-lying areas are Hooded, and for about two hours the city streets resembled rivers. At the corner of Fort Street and Queen Street the water was knee deep. At the corner of Queen and Customs Streets motor cars were stopped by water reaching the engines. The premises of quite a number of city business firm were Hooded. The downpour was steady from 7.30 n.m. to 11.30 a.m.
