FASTEST HALF=MILE
CHRISTCHURCH RECORD. AUSTRALIAN’S SUCCESS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. The. fastest time over recorded at Christchurch for a, half-mile run was made to-night by J. D. Pitt, the champion middle distance professional runner from Australia. Fitt’s time was I min 53 2-sscc. He won his race easily, conceding handicaps up ito GO yards. Over a mile Fitt was beaten by Getson by a yard in 4inin Mo sec.
In sprint matches between D. McLennan, New Zealand champion, and | Lynch Cooper, McLennan was in his (best form and Cooper palpably off. Me'Lcnnun won the 75 yards in 7 4-ssec by [two yards, and the 100 yards in lOsco Iby three yards. Cooper, on medical advice, did not run in the 120 yards distance, which was the third of the match series.
