Pilgrims numbering 1,500,000 have gathered at Koubli Mela-for India’s greatest festival which is held at Allahabad every twelve years at a point in front of the fort where the Ganges and the Juinma meet. At the opening of the festival yesterday 10,000 people stood waist deep in the sacred Ganges with hundreds of thousands standing on the banks to greet the dawn.
