PATEA.
PROGRESS LEAGUE. At a meeting of the Patea Progress League this week, the Mayor (Mr F. Ramsbottoim) presiding, the nightwatchman (Mr R. Julian) reported that several door s , had been found open and taps had been found running. Fire was discovered in a washhouse and extinguished. He was on duty from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. It was decided to.send a recommendation to the South Taranaki Shipping Company to encourage and develop la return freight service to Patea, Members .spoke of tlie noise of motor-cycles speeding at night through the borough. Tlie Borough Conner's attention was drawn also tq the excessive 'speed; of motor-cars and cycles through the borough and the absence of notices restricting speeds. It was decided to support the continued observance of Wednesday as the half-holiday. PERSONAL. Mrs T. Lineham and Mrs M. Paterson, of Auckland, am visiting Patea. .Mr and Mrs W. F. Sheild have returned from Hastings.
