MAGISTRATES COURT ACTIONS'

CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP

Action was taken under the Motor Vehicles Act against J. F. Sargeson, who appeared before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., in the Hawera Magistrate's Court this morning, charged with having tailed to notify the change of ownership of a motor vehicle. A fine of 10s and costs was imposed.

UNREGISTERED VEHICLE.

Charges of having used au unregistered motor vehicle, with having used a number plate not appropriated to the vehicle, and with failing to have a number fitted in the prescribed manner, were preferred against Albert Dixon Canty A further charge was with having used, a motor vehicle without a number.

The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges. Sergeant Henry said that defendant did not appear to be conversant with his obligations in the matter. On each of the first two charges defendant was fined 10s, with 10s costs, and £1 with 10s costs on the third U =e ' N EG LIGENT DRIVING.

Martin Wharemate guilty to negligent driving of a motor car in Hawera on November 22. He was fined £2, with 15 s casts.

MOTOR-CYCLE SPEED!NG

Speeding ovfer the intersection of Collins and Erin Streets on his motor cycle in a manner that might have been dangerous to the public was the charge preferred against J. S. McLean.

Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr. D. Hunt, traffic inspector, said that, at a conservative estimate, defendant was travelling from 40 to 45 miles per hour, which he had admitted. Defendant considered that 35 miles per hour was his speed at the time. “Do you think that 35 miles per hour is not a dangerous speed over intersections?” queried the magistrate. A fine of £2, with 10s costs, was imposed. Failure to stop his car as near as practicable to the kerb on the near side of the street cost C. Trotter 10s and costs. Driving a motor cycle without having a driver’s license cost W. A. Seed £l. with 12s costs. H. Woollett also had no driver’s license when accosted while driving, a motor car and was fined £l, with 10s costs.
