CHINA AFTERNOON

Mrs R. D. Douglass was hostess at a china afternoon, which she gave in honour of Miss K. Lambie, whoso marriage will shortly take place. The keen contest among the guests during the treasure hunt caused much enjoyment, and the luckv competitor was M iss G. Linn. Songs were contributed by Mi ssos Tv. Lamhie and N. Astbury, while pianoforte solos were given by Mrs Douglass. The “menu” and “guessing of the parcels” competitions were won by Mrs H. Linn and Miss D. Nicholas. After a dainty afternoon tea the parcels were presented in a basketvery effectively decorated with pink roses and ribbons.

Mrs A. C. Pease, on behalf of the guests, wished Miss Lamhie every success in her future life and expressed regret at lier leaving because slie bad taken an active part- in the social life of the district. Mrs Pease also thanked Mrs Douglass for the enjoyable afternoon. , Miss Linn hie then suitably replied, and “For she’s a jolly good fellow” was heartily sung at the close of the afternoon. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs C. Thomas, of Hamilton. are staying with Mr and Mrs W. Lamhie. Mr and Mrs IT. Astbury and Miss M. Anderson, of Wellington, are the guests of Mr and Mrs D. L. Astbury. Mrs Lewis, of Auckland, is staying with her daughter. Mrs G. Pease. Mr L. Rowe lias returned to bis home after a severe illness. Mrs Carswell. of Wellington. is visiting her old home in Mangatoki. GENERAL. Owing to a wet harvesting season the farmers are turning their hay crops into extra ensilage stacks. Although one or two fine days have been experienced the weather still appears unsettled.
