COMING CONTESTS
Delegates from tbe brass and pipe bands of Taranaki met at Stratford on Monday and discussed the coming band contest in Eltham on March 13. There was a good attendance, Mr P. Sicoglund presiding. The chairman said it was doubtful if Stratford would lie able to compete, owing to lack of adult members. He said there would probably be seven brass bands and four or five pipe bauds.
Mr H. C. A. Fox (Hawera.) urged that every band should make efforts to compete and should know by this time whether this were possible. He referred to the matter of drum-majors and asked if Hawera, unable to get a civilian or retired military man, could have a -staff officer. The meeting decided that they should abide by the rule that no acting military man could be employed. The question of broadcasting of tlie contest was referred to tbe contest committee at Eltham. A motion of thanks was accorded the New Plymouth Regimental Band for the donation of a shield.
