GRAIN! AND PRODUCE. CANTERBURY PRICES. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 10. There lias been very little business in grain and produce during the week. The speculative element is practically dormant, merchants generally waiting until there is a mox-e reliable indication of what the harvest will yield. One of the few exceptions, and that to a very small extent, is potatoes. Sales of these have been made at- £3 12s 6d on trucks. There have been a few transactions direct between merchants at £3 17s 6d a ton, but through brokers the f.o.b. sacks in value remains at £o. There is little doing in the mai'kct for milling wheat. A few purchases have been made of “free” wheat at 5s 9d on trucks, net, for Tuscan 6s for Hunter’s. Prospects of a better yield have been markedly improved by the weather of the last few weeks, and inquiry lias eased as a result. No business is being done forward in oats, but chaff has been the subject of a few transactions. New chaff is quoted at £4 on trucks and old at £5 p.s. The weather is helping the onion crop | and prices are inclined to ease. As a consequence Alarch-April delivery is quoted at £3 15s a ton oil trucks and £5 f.o.b. sacks in.
