“FULL DRESS” TEST.

NOT WARRANTED BY N.Z. TEAM.

(By Telegraph —Press Association.)

WELLINGTON,. Jan. 9. According to advice received, from England, a proposal that New Zealand should 'be given three tests during the visit of its team to England next year did not find favour with the M.C.C. It was confidently hoped that three tests would be allotted. The board, however, had different views, and would not contemplate such a disturbance of domestic cricket as eight tests in successive years would cause, apart from which there was no guarantee that the status of the New Zealand team would warrant full dress Test engagements. _ The recommendation to the M.C.C. cricket 'committee is that one Test must suffice.

M.C.C. TOUR

FIRST TEST TO-DAY.

Interest all over the Dominion in tlie cricketing world will centre in Christchurch to-day, where the first test match with the M.C.C. team was begun this morning. Both teams have had regular play for some weeks and should be in the best fettle, so that a great struggle may be confidently expected. Tlie Englishmen appear to have been some time adapting themselves to tlie slower wickets of the Dominion, but they seem to have done so now and should give of their best play in this and tlie succeeding matches. The first three of the tour were drawn, but the last three have been won by large margins. N Special interest will attach to tlie play of the two champions, Woolley, who had ten centuries to his credit last season in England, and Dlnileepsinliji, who had scored eight, two in one match and two double centuries.

The wicket at Lancaster Park, according to yesterday’s message, was in fine order, while the weather was promising. All followers of the game will hope that the luck will run evenly. The play on both sides is likely to be of a standard to attract large crowds.
