Tardieu’s. address to the Gennan delegation, in which, referring to a question of the guarantees and execution of th© Young Plan, he was reported to have said : “You ask us to have confidence in you, yet you don’t seem to have confidence in yourselves. Your attitude leads u« to doubt- your general capacity to negotiate.” The German delegation requested M. Tardieii for an explanation. Al. Tardieu expressed regret that lie had given an idea he had been offensive. He claimed that the passages in question had been incorrect]© reported. Tho Germans accepted the explanations, hut demanded that lie should issue a statement that the passages were not used by AT. Tardieu.
