INDIVIDUAL THRIFT

AUCKLAND PEOPLE’S SAVINGS. INCREASE OF DEPOSITS. —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 8, There was an increase of deposits over withdrawals of £225,000 in the Auckland Savings Bank during the past year. In 1928 £4,141,000 was deposited and £3,861,000 withdrawn, while in 1929 £4,330,000 was deposited and £4,105,000 withdrawn. “If anything conditions have been a little better this Christmas,” said an official of the bank. “Money is coming in well for the new year, and this seems to be an indication that there are better times ahead.”

Taken on the whole the year witnessed a triumph over several obstacles. The position in Auckland was very sound, and as the increased bank figures have been derived almost entirely from accounts of £IOO and under they show that the community appreciated the need of greater thrift on the part of the individual.
