ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

HA WEE A DATE APPROVED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Jan. 7. The executive committee of the Wa-Jiganui-Taranaki Centre of the N.Z.A. A.A. decided to-night to lao-ld the New Zealand amateur athletic championship fixture at Hnwera on Saturday, March J. . CENTRE EXECUTIVE MEETS. ROUTINE BUSINESS. A meeting of the executive committee of the Wangan ui-Taranaki Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. was held at Wanganui last night, Mr L. Cohen, president of the Centre, being in the chair. There was a. representative attendance and many details in connection with the season’s activities were attended to. The dates committee reported .that they had approved of the Mar ton Club’s application for a sports meeting on February 26, and this was confirmed.

A circular letter was recently sent to all slubis affiliated to the Centro concerning the suggested change in the control of cycling, and replies were received from several clubs stating that their members wore anxious to remain under the control of the N.Z.A.A.A. The New Zealand Council had been advised to this effect. Notification was received to the effect that the projected tour by the Canadian athletes would not eventuate.

The dates committee approved of the date —February 15—applied for by the Wanganui-A. A. aud C. Club and this was supported. A letter was received concerning the endeavours being made by the New Zealand Council to arrange for some Americans instead of the Canadians, whose tour had been cancelled, also with reference to the likelihood of getting Dr Peltzer to New Zealand. An application has been entered on behalf of the Wanganui Centre.. The Pirate A. A. and C. Club were granted permission to hold a meeting on February 8. In connection with the New Zealand championships a programme of events is to be drafted by Mr Benson and the secretary. A strong body of officials lias been appointed to manage affairs. The accommodation of visitors was left to Mr Stott to arrange. A meeting of delegates will be held on Saturday, March 15.

An advertising committee consisting of Messrs Stott, Atkinson and Mitchell and the secretary was appointed. It was decided to hold an electric light sports meeting on Tuesday, January 21. the events consisting of 100yds, 220yds_ 440yds, 880yds and mile open, 100yds and 880yds junior, 50. and 100 yds ladies, mile, three mile and halfmile cycle races and th© shot-putting and broad jump field events. Entries are to close on January IS, and the committee intimated that nominations would only be accepted from those who Lave paid their fees.
