LIVINGSTONE MEDAL RESEARCH SOCIETY’S AWARD AUSTRALIAN CONGRATULATIONS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 12.30 p.m. to-clav. NEW YORK, Dee. 20. Commander Byrd lias been awarded the Livingstone Centenary Medal, according to an announcement by the National Geographical Society. Mr- Brooke, the Australian representative in the United States, has sent the following messages to Commander Byrd:

5 “My fellow Australians rejoice with the citizens of your own republic at the successful and safe accomplishment of one of the greatest feats in history. As the representative of Australia ,in the United States I desire to join with all Americans in sending you and your brave companions best wishes for Christmas and a safe return in the New Year.”

Commandef Byrd replied: “We were all delighted to get your message,, especially so on account of our friendship and admiration for your countrymen, Sir Douglas Maw son and Sir G. H. Wilkins. Sir Douglas Mawson’s work is certain to be of very great scientific value, and we are at this time waiting to receive Sir Hilbert Wilkins who finishes his great flight at this 'base. He will' receive a warm reception from all the inhabitants at Little America, who join with me in best wishes to you and your fellowcountrymen in Australia.”
