PERSONAL ITEMS.

The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) had another good day yesterday and the improvement in his health was reported last night to he continued.

Mr R. McCay, of Hawera, returned 1 on Saturday evening after a visit of four weeks’ duration to the South island. During his visit, Mr McCay visited A. and P. Association shows at Lee.ston, Tima.ru, Ashburton, Rangiora, and Christchurch. He was exceedingly well impressed with the quality of stock exhibited and particularly with the evidence of the growing popularity of the Clydesdale horse breed. The funeral of the lute Mr Otto F. Gernhoefer on 'Saturday was very largely attended , testifying to the esteem in which he was held in Taranaki. The cortege was a, long one, close on 100 motor-cars following to the Kltham cemetery, where interment took place. Ilev. J. A. R.ybum conducted! the burial service, and Bro. F. Townsend, of the local Foresters, read the lodge ritual for the dead. The pafli-bearers were Messrs Lou Peppered, G. Harrison and H. Jordan,' representing the Tug-of-War Club, and Messrs A. Nelson, F. Casey and C. Barker, of the Stratford Gun Club. Few families in Eltham and district were unrepresented among the mourners, while many others from all parts of Taranaki also -aid their last respects to one who was a splendid type of settler, kind-hearted man and father, and a true sport among his fellow-men.
