FAIR INCREASE ON TOTALISATOR (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 15. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s spring mooting was concluded to-day in fine but windy weather. The attendance was large. The course was in good order. The totalisator investments for the day amount, ed to £69,112, compared with £67,725 on the corresponding day last year. The total for the meeting was £201,312, compared with £175.951 last year. . CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 14. “Surely there are enough sound horses produced that we can do without blind ones for racing,” declared Mr. W. Hayward at a meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association when the question of a I lowin cr a hiiycl trotting mare to race in New Zealand was under consideration. Frederick J. Smith, 471 Alanukau Road. Epsom, Auckland, wrote asking
if could register a blind mare to race- He was’ negotiating for a blind mare racing in Engl and, and wanted to be sure that lie was abiding by the association's rules.
It was decided to reply that the association did not approve of the importation of a blind inare for racing purposes. SEVENTY TOO OLD TO DRIVE. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 14. “The new forms for licenses ask for the applicants’ ages, and that is how we are getting them. It is most unwise to grant a driver’s license to a man in his 70th yeaiy” stated Mr. IV. Hayward at a meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association.
Mi-. Hayward was referring to an application from James MeEwan, a blacksmith, of Gore, tor licenses to train and drive. It was stated that the applicant was in his '7oth year. A member stated that MeEwan had bred Cathedral Chimes.
The, secretary, in reply to a question, stated that the applicant was granted a driver’s license last year, and Mr. Hayward added that it was only by the new application forms that the applicants’ ages were being ascertainA trainer’s license was only granted bv the board. ____
