ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA.
PROPOSALS BEING GONE ON WITH. DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 11.15 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Nov. 15. It is understood that if Avireless telephony to Australia is shortly to be introduced it will be limited to & speaking box at Sydney. It is explained that the present apparatus being used -qt Sydney allows an excess of waves of current along the outgoing circuit to England, creating “singing,” Avhich prevents switching to subscribers’ telephones or connection AA r itli Melbourne. To overcome tills the British Telephone Department is building a duplicate of its val\ r e switch gear which, operated by the speaker’s voice, suits the return circuit and prevents “singing.” It will he at least four months before the apparatus is delivered at Sydney. It is understood that the British controllers hesitated to agree to an imperfect- service, but yieldfd to Australia’s desires.
