EMPIRE ECONOMIC UNION
CLOSER CO-OPERATION URGED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.; LONDON, Nov. 14. Announcing the formation of an Empire economic union, a representative group of industrialists, including Lord Melcliett, Sir Herbert Austin, Sir Hugo Hirst, Sir Herbert Morgan, Sir Harry Brittain, and Sir Harry McGowan, has issued a manifesto urging closer Empire economic cooperation in order to secure the rapid development of the Empire’s agricultural, mineral and manufacturing resources. The signatories suggest that the nations of the Empire must either combine as an economic unit or accept absorption in other groups, Britain entering the European group and the Dominions entering the American economic orbit. The manifesto urges that if the ideal of a free interchange of Empire products cannot at present he realised they should got as near as possible to it by modifying whatever is vexatious in the fiscal trading systems. The manifesto appeals to the political world for an amnesty in past controversies, leaving the imperial economic conferences free to do their best' for the Empire.
