A meeting of the Southland branch of P. and T. Officers’ Association last night protested against the -increase in salary made to members of Parliament in the session’s dying hours. It further recorded its opinion that the motion tendered by the Labour Party having for its so-called object an increase in pay for civil servants was nothing less than party camouflage, and that as between the three political parties there was little or no difference, as they were not- out to do justice to the moral claims of the members of the P. and T. .service, who for years had been demanding a living wage. The South Auckland branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute has also passed a resolution expressing strong disapproval of the action of Parliament in refusing a restoration of the cuts in civil service salaries while voting members a bonus of £IOO.
