LARGE DAMAGES AWARDED, (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Nov, 5. Last week Charles Robertson, uncommercial traveller, was acquitted on a charged of negligently driving a motor car so as to cause the death of James Robert Symonds, a bridge-keeper employed by the Public Works Department on the Manawatu Gorge bridge. This morning in the Supreme Court, before Mr Justice Blair, a civil action was heard in which deceased’s widow Elsie Evelyn Ivlay Symonds, claimed from Robertson and the Diabolo Separator Company, trading as the New Zealand Farm Separator Company, £2OOO. His Honour awarded £IBOO and assessed the widow’s interest at onethird, the remainder to be held in trust for the children, except the eldest, who is over 16. SUPREME COURT AT NAPIER. NAPIER, Nov. 5. The Supreme Court has opened before Mr Justice Ostler, who coqxplimented the district on its freedom from come. He referred to the fact that no sexual cases were set down for hearing. John Tahu Andrews pleaded guilty to forgery and uttering and was sentenced to detention for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding .three years. Leonard A. E. Maugham, for theft of money and a motoi cycle was ordered to be returned to a State training farm. Harold Septimus Rose pleaded guilty to breaking and entering with intent toi commit a crime'. He was admitted to probation for two years and ordered to make restitution and to pay costs for the prosecution. ECHO OF COLLISION. WELLINGTON, Nov. 5. A claim was made in the Supreme Court by George Everson, of Petone, against the Canadian Knight and Whippet Motor Company, of Wellington, for £213 Is 6d special and £SOO general damages as the result of a collision on the Hutt Road on June 22 of a ear with plaintiff’s motor eyrie, the allegation being that the driver of the ear was a servant or agent of the defendant company and was unskilful, unlicensed and guilty of negligence.
