Writing from Doncaster on Septemher 26, t.o Mr W. Hawkins, Mr H. C. A. Fox, who left Haw-era for England some months ago, reports in a letter to a friend that he had played for several bands at contests in England. He played for Bentley Colliery Band at three contests. At Misterton they got first and cup and also medals for best cornet, horn and soprano. At Manchester, in Bellevue championship, they were eighth out of twenty-two of the best hands in Britain and at Scarboro the hand secured second prize. Mr Fox is returning to Hawera in the near future.
