OTAKEHO FARMERS

DISTRICT ASSOCIATION MEETS. COMPETITIONS ARRANGEMENTS DISCUSSED. At the ordinary monthly meeting of the members of the Otakeho Parmer,s’ District Association, held last night, Mr E. T. Durke (president) was in the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members. The lion, secretary (Mr 11. R. Wood) advised that Mr Marshall, the veterinary expert who was to have given an address, was unfortunately prevented by urgent business from attending. The president said the advice had been received too late to make any fresh arrangements. In order to foster an interest in ensilage making, it was decided to ask Mr Smith to give a lecture on the subject. It was agreed to continue at a later date the series of papers given by members. The secretary repelled that in the farmers’ competitions the following entries hp.d been received: Lucerne, established, (5; carrots, 2; mangolds, 3; swedes, 7. It was resolved to ask Messrs Smith/ and Palmer, of the Agriculture Department, to act as judges for the competitions.

The secretary said that more entries were to be received, and that it was still some time off the date arranged for closing of entries. He urged members to make entries as soon as possible. A general discussion followed on matters of interest to farmers arising out of members’ experience and the results of work on their farms. A vote of thanks to the chair con- 1 eluded the meeting.
