ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY
BOARD TAKES OVER.
OCCUPATION OF PREMISES. FORMAL NEGOTIATION OF SETTLEMENT. To-day at noon the South Taranaki Power Board formally took over the plant /and ibuisfiniess oil the JHaweu-w County Electric Co.. Ltd., which it puirc based at a .price of £125,682, as fixed by arbitration. The board recently obtained the ratepayers’, sanction to a loan of £187,500 for a. 26 years’ term, with a two per cent, sinking fund in order to inert the cost of pui'chase and I.o' (provide for future development. When the hoard formally took possetssion of lif.s new premises, to-day the chairman, Mr J. E. Murdoch, was accompanied by Mr John Houston, solicitor of the hoard, Air H. S. Elliotl, interim secretary, Air T. E. Overton, engineer, Air S. P. Day, consulting accountant, and Air K. Evaiyi, fonn-1 crly engineer to the company and now assistant-engineer to the board. A!r A. Orilema.il ivis also ]iresent as representative of the ityafd’s soliciitors. Mr A. K. North, solicitor to the company, represented the'company and the negotiations of settlement were carried out at the 'Office of his firm and at the Bank of Australasia.
Subsequently the board’s representa.five.si visited the office, premises in Fiuon Street. There Air Murdoch briefly expressed gratification that the n.ejgptiatiiiQns had teen concluded 1 on behalf of the residents qf South Taranaki. He congratulated the company on it« 25 years of useful service and said that the board was looking forward to undertaking the further development of that service. All- North briefly replied and said that he would 00-nvey the chairman’s congratulations' to the 'ex-directorate of the Ha worn. County Electric Company.

Members of the stall' of the Haiwera County Electric Light Company. Ltd., gathered at a dinner at the Central Hotel last night, when the opportunity was taken to farewell the manager, Aii- P. A\ . Lamb. Air E. Brans, the engineer and the company’s employee with, till© longest, service; presided over an attendair.o of upwards of 30. Toasts honoured were: “The King”: “The Directors and Shareholders,” proposed: by Air AY. Rices and responded to by Air Lamb; “Mr Lamb and Family,” proposed, by Mr J. C. Downey and responded to by Mr Lamib; “The Ladies,” proposed by Air L. C. Storm and responded to by Air A. Henry. in presenting the guest of the evening wUith a handsome grandfather clock, the ehainnan spoke of the arnic-a-bio relations that Lad existed between the manager and .staff during Mr Lamb As term of office, and said that ai.ll iregjrqfttad fi,'evening their , connection wirth him and wished bun everv prosperity.
.Replying, Air Lamb thanked the staff lor fits action, and said that, apart from the value of the gift, lie would treasure it a.s a reminder of pleasant associations in the company's ‘employ.
