RAILWAYMEN’S WAGES.
BRITISH DISPUTE SETTLED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 12. As a result of five hours’ conference yesterday between -represent-aitives of the railway companies and tMee railway trade unions the wages controversy was settled. A provisional agreement was reached -to continue the 2} -per cent, ■reduction of wages and salaries for a further period of six months, and -then to revert to the former rates, with the condition that no application for a general revision of -wages shall be made before November off next year. The arrangement requires the endorsement by delegate conference’s of the three -unions, -also, .though this is only a formal matter, by the railway directorates. There is scarcely a doubt about the acceptance off the arrangement by -t-lic unions.
In the first place the companies asked for a continuation of the reduction for 12 -months as against only six months as now arranged.
