DAIRY CONTRACTS.

IUK.vS-\Y l.GiriT CONTROVERSY. ißj fclcgraplt —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. Air W. A. lorns, chairman of the Dairy Board, says that be is sorry to .see Air Wight is ignorant of the history of production of standard contracts. Mr Wight’s challenge to say where he lias retracted is really amusing, in view of the fact that Air lorns did not say lie had retracted. Air lorns had stated that Air Wight receded from liis argument that the exporters intended to combine and force contracts on the producers and his further argument that the board approved of finest grade as the basis m the cheese contract, tie had dodged putting up any proof, as lie had evaded the suggestion that he put up proof of the statement that the producers would lose heavily if finest was made the basic grade- in the butter contract of pro-of that 135,000 boxes, which represents the South Island total export of butter last -season could be sold at the same price f.o.b. for first grade as for finest. Mr Wightcontinually side-stepped, putting up proof for main arguments, and no doubt would continue to do so, and under these circumstances Air lorns proposed non’ to drop the question and leave -to the judgment of the producers the valuation of any such statements.
