When a police party raided a wine saloon ait Uivbucca, near Kempsiey, a man. said to" be the proprietor of the saloon, produced a. double-barrelled gun and fired eight shots at the police. Constable Folev was wounded! in the leg, but the man was arrested at the revolver -point. The police 'report states that the man refused to open the door to them. Later he appeared on the balcony and told them to clear out. When the constables made a move towards the door the man opened fire. The police withdrew, but later surrounded the house and gained admittance. Later William May was charged with shooting Constable Foley with intent t.o murder him.
