I PAKI'RA.Mfi'A HUNT MEETING. (B3 1 JVligraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 23. Justify and Ari'hah a have been scratched for all engagements at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting at Ellerslie to-morrow. HUNT CLUB PROSPECTS | (By “Limited.’) The Auckland province practicality opens its new season’s racing to-mor-row, when tho'Pakuranga Hunt Club’s meeting takes place. The holds are large and a successful meeting is assured. In the Hunters’ Steeip'ie chase.—the smallest field of the day—favouritism shoiud rest with Town Rambler and Marita. The Hunters’ Hurdles has drawn a field of eight, with four well fancied— Abbott’s Delight and Waiau Lady may bo best supported. A field of 26 has accepted for the
Sylvia. Park Handicap, land contains a number of unknown quantities. Partial Eclipse is top weight, and if started in this race in preference to the Rune din Handicap later in the day, will have plenty of support, as her performances
at Gisborne 'recently were quite impressive. The three-year-old Mo tore will also claim attention from backers, as will also Ariliana, and Arikitoa. Motere and Partial Eclipse may be the elect Of backers. The Jellicoe Handicap —a mile and a quarter—is the big flat race of the day, and ha : s attracted some good performers. High Pitch, the top weight, performed we'll at the Trentham meeting, and will be well fancied, the going likely to be encountered being in his favour. King Emerald ran a good raco to Seatown in June', and is reported to be in tip-top condition. Maori Boy, a promising horse, will have an opportunity of performing up to his reputation. Queen Arch is in on the limit, and will carry the confidence of Waikato hackers, and they are having a 1 good run at present. Betting should I cover a wide area in this race, andl the closing of the totalisator may _ find High Pitch and Ring Emerald disputing favouritism. The Pnkaranga Hunt Gun Steeplechase has drawn a field of 13, with several engaged earlier in the day. After the form displayed by Odin at the Great Northern meeting, the publio will have no difficulty in finding a favourite. and Odin should occupy the position, with Master Arch the best supported of the others. ’ The Auckland Handicap of one mile] will furnish another large field of hacks with plenty of material for a surprise. In the absence of Maori Boy, Justify, Bombarder and Whakarite will carry! some confidence. The Ladies’ Bracelet for hunters should, in the absence of Odin, find Calitbe and Temperature well fancied. The sprint event—the Dunedin Handicap —concludes the programme, and contains a number of well-performed horses. Gold Money, Pad cion. Marble
King. Standfast, and the light-weights Partial Eclipse, Mark Mint and Palmares, will all carry the confidence of their connections, and Marble King, Gold Money and Partial Eclipse may justify their selection.
