(From Our Own Correspondent.) EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. The final of a series of euchre parties and dances was held at Te Roti on Friday, August 9. The winner of the ladies’ prize was Mrs Grierson with 12 games, Mrs Blackmore being second with 11 games. Mr F. Bluett won the men’s first prize and Mr Simpson the second. Tlie points prizes were presented during the evening, Mrs Grierson being the winner with 92 points; Mrs Hooper and Mrs McAsey with 89 points each were second. Mr P. Scheuber was first in the men’s points with 81, and Mr G. Graydon second with 75. Presentations were also made to Mrs Fowler and' Miss V. Grierson for their assistance with the music for the dances during the year. KITCHEN EVENING. On Wednesday evening the hall was well filled and an enjoyable time was spent, when a kitchen tea was given for Miss Mavis Grierson, whose marriage takes place next week. Each guest brought a gift for the kitchen, the bride receiving many useful presents. The first part of the evening was devoted to progressive euchre, the prizes being won by Mrs Cran and Mr McAsey. During the evening songs were contributed by Misses Thelnm and Mavis Gibson, and a pianoforte duet by Mary Cockerton and Jean McAsey. After supper, which was provided by the local ladies, the parcels were opened, and Mrs Cockerton, on behalf of those present, asked Miss Grierson to accept tlie 1 gifts _ and wished her good luck and happiness in her new home in Metadata. Miss Grierson suitably replied. After singing “For she’s a jolly good follow” the hall was cleared and dancing and games were indulged in until’a late hour. Music for the dances was supplied bv Misses G. Hooper (Hawera), T. ami ' At. Gibson, M. Startup, M. and V. Grierson, and Mr R. Hii uger _ (saxophone). “Nick, knocking” ■ has been going on in the l district for some' time, and the matter has been reported to the police.
