POPULARITY OF THE SPORT, REPORT TO MEMBERS.

Tile report of the Hawera, Trotting Club, Lu he presented ait the annual meeting in the Borough Council Chambers, llawora, on Friday, August 30, states that the year ended June 30, 1029, was the fifteenth in which a totalisator meeting had been conducted and marked the twenty-fourth annua;! trotting meeting lie Id 'by the club. “It is pleasing to note* that the meeting held last Easter iyas again well supported, both by horse owners and the public, the attendance being greater, and the totalisator investments being £38,765, an increase of £1543 compared with the previous year,” continues the report. “The net profit is again only u| nominal sum, £l4B having been carried forward, but unless a reduction in. stakes is made, or a considerable saving effected; in some other items of expenditure, it is unlikely that the club will be able to do more than pay its way on trotting meetings.

“The training facilities for horses ha,vo been, considerably improved this year, and the thanks of tile club are, due to the E'gmont Racing Club, upon Which course ivo race, for valued assistance in this direction.

“ I he committee much regrets having to record the deaths during the year of the late Mr T. It. Eixloy, a former member, und one of the oldest supporters of the trotting sport in the district, and of the late Air H. C.
