UNREGISTERED MOTOR VEHICLE.
TE KIRI RESIDENT FINED. MAGISTRATE’S WARNING. The use of an unauthorised distinguishing mark on a motor vehicle driven on the Eltham road on August .1 was charged against James Alfred Parkes, of To Kiri, who pleaded guilty through his counsel (Mr T. B. Fouhy) in the Opunake Court yesterday. Mr R. W. Tate, S.M., described the offence ns a most serious one and entered a line of £5 and 12s costs-.
As detailed in court, Constable Clouston found defendant -on the highway with a motor truck bearing last year’s number plate on August 3, two months after .the date on which the new number plate should have been secured. Defendant -had informed the constable that he would get a now number that day. The constable replied that it was then too laito and that a prosecution would be made. The ease was- the first of its kind to come before him and he would impose only a nominal penalty, said the Magistrate. The maximum penalty was £SO. “I regard the offence as most serious,” he continued, "because in the event of anyone being injured through mishap with tin unregistered car the insurance cover would not be available.” If the offence k continued he would have no hesitation in imposing the maximum penalty.
