Generali Higgins, of the Salvation Army, visits Australia and New Zealand next May on a Salvationist and evangelical mission. He will conduct congresses at Sydney, Melbourne and Wellington.
Captain W. A. Wildman, senr., has retired from the Anchor Shipping Company after 53 years of service. He has commanded 1 all the company’s vessels at one time or another. Since 1916 Captain Wildman lias been continuously in the Nelson-Wellington run, reports the Press Association from Nelson.
Tlie following resolution was carried at the E Itham Borough Council meeting last night: “That this council expresses its deep and sincere sympathy with the widow, family, and relatives of the late Or. G. W. Tayler, and adjourns for fifteen minutes as a mark respect.” In proposing the resolution the Mayor (Mr. I. J. Bridger) said he experienced great diffieultv in finding words with which to fittingly and adequately express the citizens’ 'great : sorrow and grief caused by the death of such an esteemed fellow councillor ancl citizen. The late Mr. Tayler had served on the council for about 23 years, and his services .on behalf of the borough, his, unselfish work, his sacrifice of money, time and energy for the' citizens, his great and loyal' interest in the town and the people’s welfare, his services on the Hospital Board and in hundreds of other directions, had called forth from the people much love and appreciation. Cr. Nairn seconded thp motion, which was carried.
