THE THROAT BEAUTIFUL.
THE NECK AND ITS DAILY CARE
The throat is such an index of age :if neglected, and so beautiful its properly cared for, that its culture and development claim much of the time and thought of the woman who wishes to he beautiful. The. average woman wants a Tound neck, long in proportion to its degree of sturdiness, _ and beautifully arched. To achieve this, the fat' woman must expend her strength on cultivating certain muscles, and the thin woman must expend her energies on an entirely different set, for the keeping of the shape of the neck depends more upon the manner in which one takes neck exercises than upon the exercises themselves All sorts of exercises are recommended for throat culture, hut none will do any good unless persisted in. It requires patience at first, but after a while it will become a habit, and the woman will not think of retiring without her neck treatment. At first she must begin cautiously, to avoid a stiff neck, for her muscles are untrained and will not hear much exercise. USEFUL EXERCISES. The value of these throat exercises cannot be over-estimated. Numerous turns of the head must Ik>. cultivated by the woman who has forgotten how to tuni the head freely. These movements will make the throat round, and take awav that tendency towards a double chin which so quickly injures a I woman's good looks. j Good general exercises are t-hrow--1 iug the neck from, side to side and bending the neck and head, first over 'one shoulder and then over the other. | These are easy motions, and if the I body is not swayed in the process are 1 very beneficial. TO DEVELOP THE NECK. The quickest way to accomplish good ! Results in this direction is to inhale ; deeply and force the breath against the throat, holding it for 10 or 20 j seconds. As you inhale, rise on your ■ toes; as you exhale, drop on your j heels. It is well to stand before a | mirror when practising this, to see I that the breath fills out every hollow. .Careful dieting and bathing‘will im- : prove its colour, and we must trust to ! t -ie simple daily exercises given to j improve its contour. Deep breathing j should not he undertaken" unless or- | gans arc sound, or a medical man • directs.
