ECONOMY URGED.
WATER SUPPLIES IN ENGLAND. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. July 17. The Ministry of Health lias sent a request to local authorities to economise water supplies, 'accompanied by a warning that “statistics now available for a. Jong succession, of years indicate that the rainfall during the next few years may continue to falll short of the average.” Over practically the whole of England .there has been this year an abnormally ‘low rainfall, unequalled since 1921. The Ministry’s warning coincides with a ..spell qf very warm weather, the shade temperature at Kew yesterday reaching 89 degrees Fall., which i.s 18 degrees above the average day maximum for miid-July, and has only once been exceeded since 1870.
