Constable T. Donovan, of Wellington lias been appointed to the staff of the' Hawera police station. Constable Brentle.v, of Kahotu, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and is being transferred to Auckland. His place at Rahotu is to be taken by Constable Small, of New Plymouth. The commemoration -of the arrival of the late Michael Studholme, Waimate’s first white settler, who went there by -bullock dray from Christchurch 75 years ago, was observed at a public ceremony yesterday, when his soil, Mr Edgar •Channon Studholme, received an illuminated address at the hands of the Mayor.—Press Assn. Mr A. J. Glasson, of the Fields Division of t’he Department qf Agriculture, retires from the service during the next few weeks-. Mr Glasson has been stationed in the Hawera district for many years and in many ways has rendered valuable service in the interests of the farming community. Mr Glass-on has also been a very keen supporter of the Boys’, and Girls’ Agricultural Clubs, and much of the suooess achieved in the southern division is due to the enthusiasm he bats always shown in the movement.
