REQUEST FOR A WHARF.
WELLINGTON, July 17. ■ A number of settlers in the Okuru district (South Westland) waited on members of the Government with a request that a sum of money be placed on the estimates to provide for the erection of a wharf at Jackson's Bay and the completion of the road from Okiuu to the port. It was emphasised that there was a large area of land waiting settlement and there were great timber resources to be exploited. An assurance was given that the matter would be given consideration when the estimates 'were being prepared, which would be in about six weeks.
