QUESTIONS IN HOUSE. I iAustralian Press Association—United Service.) Received 2 p.m. to-day. LONDON, July 15. I In the House of Commons, Mr A. A. Ponsonby (Labour) said that be had received a telegram from Australia regarding the Imperial preference proposals, but a frank interchange of views with the Prime Minister was impossible if the contents were communicated to the House. Air W. Smith said that he had received some communications respecting the United States tariff increase, hut had not made representations. ( Answering a series of questions, the Rr. Hon. Ramsay MacDonald intimated that he was willing to grant an inquiry into Ministerial salaries if it was the general wish of the House. The Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin intimated that the Conservatives would welcome an inquiry. The House agreed to the Minister of Health’s resolution to prevent the lower subsidies of the Housing Acts taking effect before the Government had elaborated a comprehensive slum clearing policy. Miss Bonclfieicl moved the second reading ‘of the Unemployment Insurance Fund Bill, whereof the effect is to- increase the' Exchequer contribution to one-third of the aggregate amount of the contributions, the cost to the Exchequer being £3,500,000.
