OBITUARY.
AIK AY. A. CLEAVEII. Old residents of South Taranaki will learn with regret of the death in New Plymouth at the age of 74 years of Air William A. Cleaver, a pioneer settler of Te Roti, which occurred yesterday after a, .short illness. It is close ■on 50 years since Air Cleaver settled in To Roti, taking up and clearing a hush farm and later opening a general store, which. Ik- ran for many years. He was very interested in the work of l lie school, and was a member of the first school committee. Taking, as ho did, a great interest in the voting people, lie was known as “Father of fTe Roti.” ! .Mi* Cleaver was a .foundation mom-
| her and chairman of the Hall Gommitrtce, and was associated with its management for a. long period of years. He was one of the original trustees in whom the hall was vested.
> He gave up active work some six 1 years ago, and had been living at New Plymouth until his death. He leaves r. widow and 10 children, six daughters-—Mr,s Kenny (Eltham), Mrs Bublitz (Inglewood).
