SPECIAL MEETING- OF TOWN BOARD.

A special meeting of tlie Opunake Town Board was field on Thursday evening, those present being Commass ion ere A. J. Isrennan (chairman), F. Hammond A. Raynor, W. Gun son and H. J. Montey. Tile board met t-o consider Hie tender ror the tor-sealing of the' lower portion of Bayard Street. The length to be sealed is 21 chains, and the work to be done consists of an average depth of four inches of metal, the present load to be scarified and surfaced similar to the main road. At the intersection of Domett Street Hie roadway is to be further widened. At the hospital gate the roadway is to be circular in form, with a grass centre. The main portion of the road is to be 16ft wide with a bitumen surface. It was decided to accept Hie tender of 1 sherwood, Be]Jam and Co. of -about £616. The work is to be put in hand immediately. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The last meeting of the present school committee was held on Thursday evening. Those present were: Mi ,'ssrs G. H. Hutton (chairman), A. F. Hindi, H. G. Davey, 11. Walker, P. Dai rymple, A. Raynor (secretary) and \V. H. Burgess (headmaster). The headmaster, in Iris report, stated that the roll number for the month was: Secondary 64, primary 186, the average atendanco of secondary being 49.4 and primary 167. Something should be clone in the matter of procuring typewriters for tlie commercial classes. 'At present 26 are learning on the one machine. Application had been made for two sewing machines ;or the. sewing classes, but they have not yet come to hand.—Tlie report was adopted. A letter was received from the Education Department that a subsidy of £7O had been granted! for improvement® to the playing urea. —The chairman stated that the committee had £l4O to spend for this work. On the motion of Messrs Hindi and Hutton, it- was decided to call tenders for laying down of the tennis court, the tenders to be considered on April 22.

After aid expenses are paid the credit will he £l6 9s Bd.. This will be available for improvements to the playing area.
