Sunday was a day of much interest to' Presbyterians at Hawera, because tliev celebrated at St. John’s Church the’ first anniversary of the formation of the junior choir, which has been a great. help to the musical portion of the service. The junior choir led the singing at both morning and evening services. Tn the morning they sang two anthems, “Listen to my cry” and “Soldiers of the Cross.” and in the evening tliev repeated the latter and sang also “Absent faces” (in three parts'), “I love to hear the story,” .solo hv Audrey McLaren, and quartette “The glad message,” Misses N. nnd TZ. Mnthoson, B. Twaddle and M. Lamb, and the hymn “Knocking.” An address on “’Youth work” was given in the morning by Miss Shannon. travelling secretary of the Y.W.8.0.. and Lev. R. E. Evans preached in the evening, taking as his subject “Unlikely channels.” and basing his address on the Bible story of Christ and the Samaritan. In the afternoon Miss Shannon addressed members of Bible Classes, about 30 being present. Mr. M. hr. Scott, of Whakamarn, whose dogs won the Huntaway class at i Tarata on Friday, has competed at five meetings recently in Taranaki, winning first and second in four and a second in the other. The General Manager of Railways (Mr H. H. Sterling), who is visiting Taranaki, will confer at Stratford with the holders of the Broadway railway lapses who consider the rents arc too high. Fire eingines in Rochdale have been fitted with wireless sets by which messages can he sent and received. All kinds of tests have been made, during which it has been found that it is pos r sible for the men on the fire engine to talk with headquarters while travel- ' ling.
