MR ARTHUR HIRST. F.R.S.A.

LECTURE-RECITAL ON WEDNESDAY. An unique attraction for lovers of music will be offered by the visit of Mr Arthur Hirst, F.R.S.A., of London, who will give a music lecture-re-cital in St. Mary’s Hall at Hawera on Wednesday evening. Mr Hirst is • a man with a. comprehensive knowledge of music as well as a lecturer with a simple and original method of exposition, which makes his subject intensely interesting to all, even the so-called unmusical. In addition he is an instrumentalist of power and expression. The visit will bo of special interest to people of the district because Mr Hirst is a Patea boy and lived for many years in Hawera district before he went Home to take up music as a profession. Press critics in the Old Country have spoken very highly of Mr Hirst’s work, a Dublin paper referring to the fact that “his charming lecture was listened to with rapt interest by a large audience.” Another critic said that “he had never had the privilege of listening to a better lecture on music than those given by Mr Hirst. He has marvellous ability'at the piano,; and displays high tone and insight- in his lectures.” The “Weekly Scotsman” said of his work : “Admirably arranged —unfailingly delightful—it conveyed in simple and direct language a wealth of information.” All interested in music are advised to secure tickets at once.
