A MUSICAL TREAT. AIR. ARTHUR HIRST’S RECITAL AND LECTURE. Tlio following is an extract .from a letter from the City Librarian, Coventry, to the Organising Secretary, “Suburban Lectures,” London: _ “May I take this opportunity of saying that it is the general opinion, I think, ot the crowded audience last night, that no have never had the privilege oi listening to a better lecture on music than the ones which Mr Arthur Hirst has given to us last year and this year. It is easily the best and most appreciated lecture in the series, not because the others are poor in quality, but because of the marvellous ability Mr Hirstshows at the piano, and the high tone and insight which he displays in his lecture. Sneaking personally,. I have never lionrcl n lecture on music or nil executant at the pi&no. with greater joy than I experienced in listening to Mr Hirst; and I am firmly convinced that in a rapidly growing city like Coventry (with its many and grave problems incidental to a cosmopolitan collection of people, from. all over the country, with very little civic spirit, or feeling for the less tangible things of life), lectures like Air Hirst’s are the finest things that can possibly he arranged. T sincere.lv trust that Mr Hirst will he available through your organisation next year. You will seefrom the return of people attending that 'wo squeezed in as many as we possibly could, hut even then we had manv applications which we conld not possibly satisfy.” Air Hirst will appear at St. Alary’s Hall. Hawera, on Wednesday next.
