As a result of severe burns received when a 45-gallon drum of petrol caught, fire at his home on Tuesday evening last, Charles Rantlel died in hospital this afternoon. . His injuries were .sustained whilo lie was attempting to turn off the tap ot the benzine drum. Air Randel was a i married man -A vear s of age. LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN, April 2. ] A level-crossing smash occurred in 1 Dunedin this afternoon when a baker s 1 motor delivery van owned by Mr John i Abbott was totally destroyed through colliding with a smutting tram at me j Hanover Street level-crossing. By a miracle of good fortune neither the driver, William A. Spence, a mar- 1 ried man about 40 years of age, nor a boy who was accompanying mm, was hurt at all seriously, though both are suffering from shock. Spence received a slight cut over the knee which necessitated treatment at the hospital, but he was able to go home. 'The. boy was not hurt with t-lie exception of minor bruises. FATAL ROAD ACCIDENT. OAMARU, April 2. As the result of an accident on the Main South .Road, near Hampden, this evening, a voting named -Magnus Laing lost his. life. He was ruling a bicycle in a southerly direction and was k'mel.ed down by a car driven by -Moss \\ yde, who. was proceeding to Dunedin. DEATH FROM FRACTURED SKULL AUCKLAND, April 3. William Gordon, aged 74, an inmate of the Salvation Army prison gate home for several yeans, wandered away on Monday and was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with a - fractured skull, from which lie died this main.in".
