Henri Bed on, a former -M arse lies hairdresser, arrived at Havre after 11 vears on Devil’s Lsiand, where he was servin'-- a life sentence for allegedly betraying hi,s country, a charge which ha,s been proved to be wrong. He n-a been convicted on the evidence ot a man who. during 1916, appeared as witness in a murder charge, but the evidence was found to- be so outrageous that tli* 0 indge ordered him from the court. " Belton’s case was later reopened and be was found to be entiieb innocent. The- authorities releas-edhnn and crave him £4O compensation, which was lust sufficient to pay his tare home.
