REQUEST FOR MOTOR ROAD. (Bj Telegraph—P:e&d Association.) REEFTON. March 30. A large representative gathering of citizens met the Canterbury delegation at Marina Springs yesterday and motored them to Reefton. A meeting held last night attended by Greymouth, Buller, Murchison, Reefton, Oamaru, and Chrstchurch citizens when the the following resolution was passed unanimously: “That this meeting, representatives from Canterbury and the West Coast, affirm the mational mportnnce of the specdv eonstrucitkm of a. motor road between Canterbury and Wet- Coast by way of .Lewis pass and that the Government be urged to have the work carried out without delay. Further, that copies of the resolution be sent to representatives of Parliament for the provinces of Mofueka, Buller. Westland, Nelson, and Marlborough.” CUSTOMS REVENUE. WELLINGTON, March 30. Customs figures for the port of Wellington for the. year totalled £2,684,850 6s Id, and the beer duty was £52,300 14s 7d. Last year’s figures were £2,505.930 0s Id and £52,186 18s 5d respectively. The figures for last quarter ■were: Customs £#)1,609 17s and beer duty £12,713 14s 2d. WOMEN IN CONEBENCE. WELLINGTON. March 30. Representatives of the women s branch of the Labour Party from all over the Dominion met in conference to-day at the Trades Hall, discussing such "subjects ns guardianship of infants. family allowance. women justices of the pence, workers’ compensation, children’s courts. Various remits from Auckland and Wellington hearing on these and other problems have been carried.
